Izhevsk Cultural Quarter
Services
Visioning, Concept Design
Location
Izhevsk, Russia
Izhevsk, the Armory of Russia, was a closed city for Military and Scientific Innovation until the collapse of the Soviet Union. Few tourists visit, but the City of Izhevsk wanted to make the city culturally competitive and give it a renewed sense of identity for its inhabitants.
The team ran workshops and authored a report, showcasing a vision for a new cultural quarter along its man-made reservoir, the Izh Pond. It considered the best way to redevelop and reactivate the under-utilised waterfront, bringing together four historic sites. These attractions would form a cultural spine, comprising an historic house, science centre, arts house and brewery, punctuated by new build F&B, and tied together seamlessly with first quality public realm.
