With the capital of Kazakstan shifting from Almaty to Astana and the State Museum of Kazakhstan following suit, the City Authority seized the opportunity to re-imagine the 17,500sqm building and grounds to house its city museum.

The Cocoon team facilitated workshops with the City, to support their understanding of what the museum could be.

Created a vision and advocacy piece for a large city museum that breathed new life into the site, its exhibitions and activity programmes. It aimed to create a social and cultural hub for locals. It was envisioned not only as a custodian of collections and a facilitator of dialogue, but a meeting and gathering place that enabled communities to engage and connect with one another and with their home city.
